Why a tree for a logo?
As a wildlife photographer, perhaps it would make more sense if my logo included animals but the idea for the douglas firs came to me, then stuck. Why? Well, when I think back, a lot of my favourite personal and wildlife memories take place in the trees, so it seemed fitting to create my brand to include them.
A few of my favourite tree moments…
— Going home to Canada and roaming through the woods near my Mum’s house with her and her dog, Dexter. The trees are so tall, you really need to experience them for yourself… We spend hours in there, layered up for whatever the weather throws at us, and it is time that I truly cherish, and at the same time, makes me incredibly homesick for my Mum.
— Spending time in the bush near my house here in Australia, especially on a rainy day. When all you can hear is the raindrops of leaves and my boots squishing through the soaked earth. The air is fresh and everything is shrouded in fog. On days like this, I only share the space with the kangaroos, and it has helped me create some of my personal favourite photos to date…
— The time I went in search of firewood with my Dad on a camping trip while back in Canada. We roamed for hours, chatting and catching up while my siblings assumed we’d somehow gotten lost. At one point three little cubs crossed the road in front of us and zip! All three of them were up a douglas fir just in front of us in seconds… Obviously, we didn’t get out of the car, but can only assume their Mum directed them to climb to safety. It was a magic moment…
— When I first started falling in love with wildlife photography, it was birds, sitting in trees. The kookaburra who sat so still it was only his colour that gave his position away. The silly crimson rosellas eating berries in a tree above my head while camping at Wilsons Prom. The galah with a head tilt that instantly reminded me of my sister and this silly little head tilt thing we do.
Honestly, the memories that include trees are endless, but every single one means so much.
The logo itself is designed off a tattoo I have — it represents my family, my home in Canada, and my love for nature.
